The product does exactly what it is advertised to do. I am using Windows XP. It installed easily and functions exactly like it should.
I am kind of amazed it digitizes in-line. I was not expecting much for this price, but it works perfectly and is easy to use. I captured lots of HI-8 clips that look prety good as far as holding its picture quality. again, just dont expect perfect picture quality for such a cheap price, and you will be pleased. I would actually give it 4 stars.
Diamond VC500 One Touch Video Capture DeviceIf you want only very blurry WMV capture, then this is the unit for you. I know a little about computers and captures and I even tried linking it to Nero, but that didn't work either. The documentation is scanty and inaccurate--the instructions don't match what is showing on the screen. I bought one of these and after spending 3 days trying everything I could think of, (including uninstalling/reiinstalling 4 times and trying 4 different tapes, both commercial and home-made) I could not get it to capture a full-length video. And my email went unacknowledged and unanswered.Fortunately Amazon is a great company and they are handling the problem prompt and courteously. After about 1 hour it would lock up with a message: Encoder internal error:R:video:-2.I returned that unit and Amazon promptly replaced it with another one, at my request. No matter what the ad says, I could not get it to capture in any other format. The only way I got a full-length capture was in WMV format, which gives you a very blurry, frame-dropped, essentially unviewable result.I can't believe that neither of these units worked as promised--I bought it because of the good user reviews--so apparently it worked for someone.
I thought it was just one of those "bad apples in a barrel", and a different one would be OK. Well, I am now returning that one too. At one point the screen went blank, and I only got the installation going again when I noticed a tag in the jobs tray that reactivated the display. When I had trouble with the first one, I tried to contact the manufacturer, but when I finally found their website, I found that the "support chat room" is apparently permanently shut down. So save them any more problems--don't buy this thing.
This is definitely worth picking up if you are new to the capturing/streaming world. as of right now, this device isn't compatible with justin.tv unless you download an app but the site tells you what to use. it was hard to decide what to buy since almost none of the reviews talk about using this with a game console. I bought this to use it as a streaming device for my Xbox 360, the audio and video quality is pretty good. i haven't tried using this on any other sites but i would imagine that it works. The Ulead program that comes with it i heard was garbage so i never installed it but you may want to find some sort of Audio/Video recording program.
I am running Vista 64 and was really surprised this thing installed on my computer. I have to keep exiting and bringing it up just to see the quality change. It does kind of hurt your eyes to look at but if you have it hooked to your t.v.
I have ran my VCR to it and had no problems and also my game consoles. I wish there were hot keys or something that you wouldn't have to use the mouse to hit record. Installation was quick and easy and I have had no problems with it crashing or anything.
to play than it may not be a big deal. The problem with the game consoles is even with s video there really isn't much difference in quality but there is a little difference. My issue with the device is that when my console is hooked to it there is a lot of blurring when there is something like moving the camera around going onscreen.
The other problem I have is when I try to change the picture quality the picture goes really white. It didn't start out like this but lately it just started doing it.Overall for the price it is a very nice option and it works great even though picture quality might not be up to par for some people.
