I bought this video capture unit with very low expectations.I mean, what would you expect for $35. No, of course not. For instance, I bought this device specifically to digitize old VHS tapes -- some of which go back to the late 80's.
I am so happy with how well it works that I had to write a review on Amazon, which I hardly EVER do. But the software allowed me to modulate the darkness and contrast, change the color balance, and sharpen the image. But it blew me away.
Needless to say, most of them have suffered some degradation of film quality over the years. It couldn't be any easier to use.just plug S-video or RCA video cable from your VCR or DVD player into the Diamond device, plug it into a USB port, and start recording. The included video capture software has a lot of flexibility, allowing you to determine the quality of the digital recording (and thus, the file size), as well as the ability to "fix" problems with the input.
The final product was fairly impressive. Is this a full-blown digital video editing studio. But for $35, I was able to convert all of my tired old VHS tapes to DVDs with very little effort and excellent results
The device shows up as installed and running in device manager but will never initialize when their software loads. Products works as advertised except I have failed to get it to work with Vista 64 bit. I never even installed the driver on the disk included but instead got the x64 driver off their website. Nothing on their site references the errors I recieve. I put the same device on my 32 bit version of Vista and it runs fine.Device has a smooth frame rate and the software included is easy to use.
Very easy to install the software and use the device. Worked fine with an older VCR. Very user-friendly - easy to understand how to set up preferences and settings. Performed exactly as described.
When I read the reviews I wasn't hopeful that this item would work, but some reviewers said that it worked as I needed it to, so I gave it a try. It was just what I needed. I can now show VHS and DVD through my computer to a mounted LCD projector. Easy to set up and very much worth the price.Diamond VC500 One Touch Video Capture Device
I sat on hold for 22 minutes trying to get through to Diamond. Seeing the high marks this item has gotten, I decided to try again. The video playing on my camcorder would not display on my computer screen at all. Basically the same conversation.
I sent it back to Amazon. I bought the first one and could not understand why it would not work. Finally started speaking to a human and I accidently hung up on us. I tested my camcorder on my TV and it plays just fine. I ordered a second one.
Called back, waited on hold 29 minutes this time. It's a mystery. I Called the manufacturer, and they said if I am not getting a blinking green light when I press the record button, then my device is defective. No blinking light, defective device. Same thing on this one.
I called the manufacturer again. I cannot understand how I could get two bad ones. Looks like I will be sending this one back also.
